Grieving & Releasing
Grief is a normal emotion to the experience of loss. The loss of a family member, an illness or injury, the loss of a job, a home, a relationship.
There is another kind of grief that can linger over a period of time not just from trauma but from other losses in our life. If one has experienced a difficult relationship in family or otherwise because of addiction, dysfunction, or mental illness, there are so many losses that are often difficult to name.
When we are first in the process of recovery from our history there seems to be a flood of overwhelming awareness of grief and sadness or anger that rise to the surface.
We can confuse these feelings of grief with judgement or blame, pointing the finger to others or even to ourselves as shame or guilt.
Feeling our feelings about the past is so important and not denying that we often carry this grief in our bodies physically. Realistically acknowledging our feelings and recognizing both the physical and emotional pain we are carrying is the first step in allowing that pain to be released.
Allow the time to feel the emotions and then process them with compassion and kindness by going inward emotionally and energetically to neutralize and then release them. Consciously allow it to surface, then through meditation and prayer release it to our understanding of God/source/universe/divine.
Be aware that this is our journey and ours alone. No one owes us resolution or acknowledgement from the past. Releasing any held in expectations from others moves us to acceptance.
Recovery, spiritual growth and understanding is a process. Be kind to yourself and others with acceptance. Be patient with your strides along the way.
I have found that EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping) is very beneficial in working through many difficulties in our quest to understand and release the past. This way we are not only acknowledging the hurt and pain emotionally by verbalizing what we feel but also physically by tapping the meridians of the body–an ancient Chinese modality which allows stuck energy to move and flow. Very simple, yet so profound!
Stay well, stay safe, and step into your freedom.
In gratitude,
Sharon
